Co-Founded by Bret Love & Mary Gabbett, Green Global Travel is an ecotourism, nature / wildlife conservation & cultural preservation magazine. More about us.
We’ve been trying to bring you this video of Peruvian Amazon river cruise highlights from our trip with International Expeditions for months now, but technical difficulties with our video editing software kept slowing us down. So we’re extremely excited to share it, as we think it gives you a great feeling for just how amazing our experience was. Every morning we’d load off the Aquamarina into the skiffs you’ll see here, venturing off into the Amazon River‘s various tributaries. In the video, you’ll get close-up views of some of our favorite encounters, from a colorful species I dubbed the Breterfly to a flock of Greater Egrets, from a Pink-Toed Tarantula to a multi-hued Caiman Lizard, from a pod of Dolphins to playful Squirrel Monkeys. You’ll even got shots from one of my all-time favorite travel experiences: Getting to do a cannonball into the Amazon River! The music you’ll hear in the background was recorded live in Peru, performed by the Aquamarina Band. We hope you’ll enjoy watching it as much as we did making it. –by Bret Love; video by Bret Love & Mary Gabbett

Aw, that butterfly really liked you! Really nice video and great shots of the wildlife in that area. Personally I LOVE anything with dolphins lol. Thanks for sharing
Us too, Tiffany! Wait until you read the story of how we encountered a pod of nearly 1000 dolphins in Panama, and I actually got in the water and swam with them. The sounds were AMAZING! Story/photos coming soon…
River dolphins!!
Yep, it was crazy to see not one, but TWO different species of river dolphins in the Amazon. The grey dolphins were very playful and curious– we saw them leaping and frolicking on more than one occasion– while the pink dolphins were much more sly and elusive. Though we saw quite a few, we never managed to get a good photo or video of them.
What a cool experience! Can’t wait to do that!
It was really incredible, something every adventurous travel should see in their lifetime.
Really a wonderful tour! What an amazing video!
Thanks so much for the compliments, Arti! We have several other Amazon videos coming soon, including visiting two Ribereños villages, encountering a rare baby Amazon manatee, and learning to cook a traditional Peruvian dish.
That butterfly is so cool
looks like you guys had a blast
Yeah, I couldn’t believe how long he stayed with me, and kept coming back for me. The guides suggested it might be my sweat that attracted it, which made me wonder why I wasn’t SWARMED with butterflies every time we visit a tropical locale. Did I mention it is seriously hot in the Amazon?
What an amazing experience, I was just thinking while watching it that the water looked so murky and dark, really treacherous when next thing you guys were jumping in…….I think I will leave that out if I am lucky enough to experience this
There were quite a few people in our group who passed on the opportunity to swim in the river, but I seriously think they missed out. As our guides explained it, the water is murky because it is full of tannins from dead leaves and such it encounters as it washes down from rain in the Andes. The good thing is that the tannins also keep out anything that might bother you, like caimans or piranhas. It was really a refreshing swim, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat, only next time I’d do a flip instead of a cannonball!
Wow, such great imagery of the Amazon! Some of those creatures look like animals out of a sci-fi movie! The video was definitely worth the wait!
Thanks, Jeannie! There were a lot more awesome animals we weren’t able to get on video due to their distance. Our GoPro camera gets great video footage, but has no zoom whatsoever. We did get some great photos, though.
Great video, and I love that first picture!
Thanks, Deej! I’m pretty partial to that one myself.
One day … I will do this one day!
You would love it, D! Words and pictures cannot even convey the sheer abundance of wildlife we saw. Nature was everywhere!
This is a great video! We think we are finally headed to South America this year and can not wait to experience this, finally, for ourselves! From all the other videos you have coming, it sounds like you really had the time of your lives

An Amazon trip sounds awesome, I just have to really make sure I’m up for it before I ever decide to go for it. I’m not exactly the outdoorsy type, though I always think it sounds great. The dolphins would be really amazing to see too.

Great video! I’ve been swimming with dolphins before, but in the Amazon? Very cool.

Thanks, Linda! But, just to clarify, we didn’t swim with the dolphins there. Look for a story coming next month about swimming with dolphins in the wild in Panama, though.
That’s wonderful, I’ve been to the Brazilian Amazon and it’s been truly unforgettable.

You mean “The Breterfly”? Yeah, he was a personal favorite of mine as well… for obvious reasons.
The Amazon is one place I really want to visit. But mainly to surf one of the longest waves in the world when the tidal bore rushes up from the ocean! Cool video guys

Seriously? I’ve never heard of that, but it sounds really cool. Would love to see a post from you about some of the most spectacular places you’ve ever surfed. I’ve never done it, but have watched some pretty great surfers in Hawaii and South Africa.
